Description

They sewed to survive… At the height of the Holocaust twenty-five young Jewish inmates of Auschwitz-Birkenau were selected to create beautiful fashions for elite Nazi women in a dedicated salon established by the camp commandant’s wife. Historian Lucy Adlington has researched their lives and fates to write a New York Times bestseller, translated into 22 different languages – The Dressmakers of Auschwitz. This virtual presentation, drawn from eyewitness interviews and original garments from the era, is a remarkable tale of resilience, camaraderie and quiet heroism in the most extreme circumstances. Please include your email address when booking as the link to this online Zoom presentation will be sent to you beforehand. This event is delivered in partnership with Off the Shelf festival and is part of our Holocaust Memorial Day series of talks.
